Here, coconut rice, Reggaeton beats, colorful homes, and a laid back attitude dominate. And with beautiful beaches, lush jungle, great surf, and an array of restaurants and nightlife, it is no surprise that Puerto Viejo is becoming a popular tourist destination.

Cahuita National Park is considered as one of the most beautiful protected areas in Costa Rica and it is THE best place to see animals. It is also one of the oldest national parks of Costa Rica as it was founded in 1970 to protect the coral reef. Because of its white sand beaches, large number of coconut palms, turquoise sea and coral reef this is a spot you do not want to miss.

After the breakfast at your hotel in Puerto Viejo, you will begin your journey to Arenal Volcano / La Fortuna. It will be 4.5 hours drive with stops along the way as needed in a private passenger van.

La Fortuna / Arenal
There is a wide range of attractions and tour activities in all areas, however, Arenal really does offer everything. Besides great views of the majestic volcano, Arenal features other remarkable landmarks, such as waterfalls, hanging bridges, and hot springs. The large, man-made lake is located just behind the volcano, and the surrounding national park bursts with spectacular flora and fauna.

Your hotel in La Fortuna – Hotel Los Lagos – is an exclusive resort with 1050 acres of tropical forest and wide landscapes, and with spectacular views to Arenal Volcano. The resort includes Butterfly Garden, Crocodile Farm, Frog farm, and it’s own 13 platform canopy.

Venture into the Costa Rican rainforest for an adventure that shows you the wonders around the grandiose Arenal Volcano.
After your late morning pickup, spend the first part of your adventure at La Fortuna Waterfall, a rainforest oasis fed by the Arenal River. Follow the staircase carved into the hillside to reach the enchanting azure pool at the bottom, where you’re free to swim in the refreshing waters, capture stunning photos, or just explore.

Explore La Fortuna town, or spend the day enjoying the hot springs pools in your hotel or hiking to the Arenal Volcano observatory located inside your resort.

Playa Santa Teresa is a booming new travel destination, attracting beach lovers to its broad, white-sand beaches, and yogis to the world-class yoga classes.
Santa Teresa is located on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica, and it is also a world famous destination for surfing. With some of the most breathtaking scenery, serene sunsets and pristine white sands, Playa Santa Teresa was even named one of the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world, according to
The trip to Santa Teresa is approximately 5 hours. The trip includes a ferry ride from Punta Arenas to Nicoya Peninsula.
Your hotel in Santa Teresa- The Place – is a charming boutique hotel secluded enough to maintain serenity yet conveniently situated within walking distance of the main beach of Playa Carmen along with numerous restaurants, shops and nightlife attractions. The pool adorned with a waterfall combined with the bar area offers the guests a serene and private environment to kick back and relax.

Explore Santa Teresa on your own or we could help organize any of the activities offered in Santa Teresa: boat tours, fishing, snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding, horseback riding, or a canopy tour on the edge of the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve.
At the sunset, you could go to a Yoga class, at the Horizon Yoga Center where you can enjoy your practice at the open wooden pavilion with the sounds of nature and the view of the ocean. This Yoga center is called Horizon for a reason!

Today we will take you to a popular whole day snorkeling tour to nearby Isla Tortuga (Turtle Island). This small island is about one hour away by boat and has volcanic rock structures that create great snorkeling conditions. There’s also a white sand beach where will you have a lunch. The ride out to the island is a tour in itself as you take in the beautiful coastline. Sometimes dolphins, turtles, or other marine life are spotted from the boat too.

The drive from Santa Teresa to San Jose will be approximately 5 hours with a ferry crossing of the Gulf of Nicoya. We recommend selecting an afternoon flight back home. Alternatively, spend a rest of the day and a night in San Jose. This is your opportunity to see the capital of Costa Rica. We will provide the accommodation recommendation and the ride to the airport tomorrow morning.
Pura Vida! We hope you had a great time and will come to visit Costa Rica again soon!

Essential info

Passport and visas

Your passport should be valid for six months after the date of your scheduled return home. Full passport details are required at the time of booking. Delays to provide this information may result in booking fees or changes to your itinerary.

Visa’s are not required for citizens of most countries in America and Western Europe. However, it is the responsibility of the individual traveler. Visas can take several weeks to process, so familiarise yourself with any requirements as soon as you have booked your trip to allow for processing time. Also, remember to check whether a transit visa is required on route to join this trip or on the way home.

Travel Insurance

Make sure you have Travel Insurance and that you are adequately covered for Cancellation, Curtailment and Medical Insurance prior to your holiday departure. Travel insurance is compulsory for all our trips. When traveling on a trip, you won’t be permitted to join the group until evidence of travel insurance. If you have credit card insurance your group leader will require details of the participating insurer/underwriter, the level of coverage, policy number and emergency contact number rather than the bank’s name and credit card details. Please contact your bank for these details prior to arriving in the country.

Couple of rules

Everyone has the right to feel safe and secure on their trip. We don’t tolerate any form of violence (verbal or physical) or sexual harassment.

Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on our trips. The exploitation of prostitutes is completely contrary to this philosophy. Our group leader has the right to expel any member of the group if drugs are found in their possession or if they use prostitutes.

Group Leader

We like to call them “Leaders” and not “Guides” because they are essentially your well traveled, experienced friends! While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the places visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious and social aspects. Our Leaders main goals are to ensure everyone on the trip is having the best time possible. Your leader will provide information on the places you are traveling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. They know the trip locations well and have great relationships with all our contacts in each destination. Not to mention they are all extremely fun and easy going people who continue to showcase the essence of what makes us Eco Explorer!

Your leader will accompany you on all included activities, however, during your trip you’ll have some free time to pursue your own interests, relax and take it easy or explore at your leisure. Please use your own good judgment when selecting an activity in your free time. Please also note that your Leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the trip itinerary if it’s deemed necessary due to safety concerns. While traveling there is always the risk of pick-pocketing and petty theft, particularly in the more touristy cities. We recommend that you exercise caution when walking alone at night and encourage you to walk together and only on main, well-lit thoroughfares. Be particularly vigilant on public transport. Simple measures like carrying your day pack on your front, not hanging your bag over the back of your chair or on the floor and wearing a money belt will reduce any chance that your valuables should go missing.

Solo travelers

Our holidays are renowned for being friendly, fun experiences, and our small groups frequently include a significant number of single travelers. You’ll feel very welcome amongst people who share a passion for seeing the world on foot and the outdoor life.

Minimum group sizes

As with all group tour operators, we require a minimum number of participants to operate each holiday. Should this number not be reached, the holiday will not be commercially viable and we reserve the right to cancel it. This will be done reluctantly and an offer of a suitable alternative holiday will be provided wherever possible.
